Sustainable hemp production: Why we rely on LEDs and coconut

Our philosophy: Craftsmanship meets high-tech

Since the launch of Cannabees, one thing has been clear: we want to create an honest product. For us, this also means being at the forefront of technology to minimize our environmental impact. Instead of outdated, energy-guzzling high-pressure sodium (HPS) lamps, we consistently rely on state-of-the-art LED technology .

The Science of Light: Why LED is Superior

LEDs offer far more than just energy savings of up to 40%. They give us control over the "light recipe":

  • Precise spectrum: We can control the light exactly. A high proportion of blue light during the growth phase ensures compact, strong plants. An increased proportion of red light and special UV light in the final phase stimulate the plant to produce more resin and terpenes – this results in the typical "frosty" look and the intense aroma.

  • Temperature control: HPS lamps emit enormous heat, which often causes valuable essential oils (terpenes) to evaporate while the plant is still alive. Our LEDs remain cool, thus preserving the aroma in the flower.

Coconut substrate: The sustainable alternative to peat

Conventional agriculture often uses peat, the extraction of which destroys valuable peatlands. We rely on coconut fibers – a byproduct of the food industry.

  • Optimal ventilation: Coconut fiber is extremely permeable to air. This prevents waterlogging and promotes explosive root growth.

  • Neutrality & Control: Coconut coir is a neutral medium. We can precisely control the nutrient supply (EC value) so that the plant always gets exactly what it needs – no more and no less.

  • Reusability: Coconut substrate is more stable than soil and can be reused multiple times if properly prepared, thus saving waste.

Swiss Made as a promise of quality

Our production facility in Meggen is the heart of Cannabees. We focus on short supply chains: from the mother plant in one room to the packaging in the next. This saves CO2 and gives us the assurance that every product leaving our shop meets our high standards.

Our promise: We continuously invest in research and technology to deliver the best CBD in Switzerland - sustainably, transparently and with respect for nature.
